The Republican Town Committee (RTC) is the leadership organization for the Republican party in Old Saybrook. The purpose of the RTC is to select and elect qualified Republicans to local office, and to support Republican candidates for state and national offices. The members of the RTC recruit and interview interested people for positions on town commissions and boards.

Another responsibility of the RTC is to assist candidates running for office. RTC members work on campaigns by preparing and distributing campaign literature, by holding neighborhood “meet and greet the candidates” events, by working at headquarters and the polling places, by making phone calls, and in other ways to promote local Republican candidates. The Committee also raises funds for candidates. We welcome volunteers to help on local, state, and national election campaigns.

Annually, the OSRTC engages high school youngsters in town to work on election campaigns as part of their civics curriculum. In addition, there is a Young Republicans group being formed locally and the OS Republican Women’s Club has been active and involved for many decades.

Forty local Republican voters are elected to serve on the RTC. The election is held every two years, usually in March, at an open caucus. Any registered Republican living in Old Saybrook is eligible to become a member of the RTC. A slate of potential members is presented by the existing Town Committee’s Nominating Committee to the caucus. Others may be nominated at the caucus. All registered Republicans in Old Saybrook are eligible to attend the caucus and vote.

The Republican Town Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm. The meetings are open to all registered Republicans. Please check out our Calendar , for more details.
